Wrt54g Version 6 Firmware Download

WRT54g v.5/6 Files

  • Re: Old Linksys WRT54G Ver 6 Sun Mar 06, 2016 5:56 pm If it was anything other than a V6 I'd keep it because it could be flashed with FOSS firmware and would be dead reliable like my old WRT54GL.
  • The hardware version is located beside or beneath the model number and is labeled version, ver. If there is no version number beside the model number on your Linksys product, the device is version 1. If you still have trouble finding your version number, see the complete article to learn more. Select your hardware version.

There are some files missing from the wiki install for the wrt54g v.5 and 6 and I need a place to upload them to, so that I can re-write the wiki install for this router.
The files contained in the zip are the VXwork_Prep_03.bin, the VXImgtoolgui.zip file, the tftp.exe program, and the 12548Newd_Micro.bin firmware.

Hi,
Could you please tell me how to restore it into original firmware? I simply downloaded the firmware from the linksys website and went to the firmware upgrade menu and loaded the downloaded firmware but it say upgrade fails. Is there any pre-requisites for this?
BTW, I have dd-wrt Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/24/09) micro
Thanks and best regards

there is nothing wrong with those instructions. if your router is now bricked, you made a mistake.

Got it unbricked it can now accept a ping. But the telnet portion is not working. I can get into telnet but those commands are not recognized. Now i can't even get into telnet. I tried TFTP flashing DD-WRT on it and it failed. Router still alive though. This is my 4th router not to worried just want some type of firmware back on it.

After the 50th time trying it worked. Router is now back to stock firmware. Thank you for your assistance and patience in this matter.

While I'm waiting on my own WRT54G v6 to come in from an eBay seller, I'm curious about what made you go back to the original firmware? Since I'm planning to do the exact opposite, wondering if I should look for potential issues ahead of time. Was it unstable, locking up, something not working or was it just the smallish flash that didn't allow for the build you liked? Please elaborate if you can.
Thanks!

Really no significant problems at all. If you need the router to be a repeater or a bridge then it's worth it. One thing I did notice over stock Linksys firmware is that my internet speeds were slower and a weaker signal. I don't need a repeater or bridge so the stock firmware is satisfactory for me. I just wanted to see what all the hype was about DD-WRT. That's the pleasure with routers you can always go back to the stock firmware. Remember this is a very weak router, you should of just went for a GL at the minimum.

Thanks, sm00thpapa. [I think] I do understand the limitations.
I've had a V5 until recently (no longer functioning) and I was able to put together a build with what I thought to be all the features I wanted - ssh+serial, not that much as far as routing or firewalls per se. I assume V6 is a very similar device, so it should still fit into and work there too.
You're giving a fair warning, and I'm already on a prowl for a larger router. I think I won't give up on this one though until I tried to hack it to a degree at which it's no longer recognizable. Flash chip and DRAM desoldering are already planned for this little guy. If it doesn't kill it, it'll make it stronger, right?
Thanks for your input!

You can not squeeze anymore ram out of this router. I would just load a micro version on it and be down with it. Hopefully it fits your needs. Flashing it back to Vxworks and stock firmware is pretty simple I just did it.

I'm reverting/restoring back to generic linksys firmware because my wrt54g v6 cannot handle the bit torrent connections. It cripples my router if I have dht enabled. I didn't have this problem with stock/generic linksys firmware until I changed to dd-wrt. I only did the change to dd-wrt firmware for the stronger signal. I will try the corner reflector from free antennas: http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/Ez-10/index.html to see if my signal improves while I have the linksys generic firmware.
So I found this link: http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/WRT54G5_CFE/#h18 to revert back.
Has anyone tried this?

Yes you must be hard wired to the router.
